Large house formerly incorporating a shop, and 6 cottages. c1830, altered. Squared and watershot coursed stone with slate roofs. EXTERIOR: No.59 is a large house of 2 storeys, 3-window range with central entrance. 6 fielded panels to door, with fanlight in moulded architrave. Flanking windows renewed, but possibly originally multi-pane fixed lights. Upper windows also renewed (originally sashes) in original openings with continuous sill band. Paired brackets to eaves cornice which continues across gable to form pediment. Full-height angle pilasters. Gable chimneys. Adjoining terrace is a lower 2-storey, 6-window range, comprising 4 single unit, double pile planned houses, and one 2-unit plan. All have renewed doors and windows in original openings with plain stone lintels. Moulded brackets to eaves. Victorian pillar box in front wall of No.59. INTERIOR: not inspected. The houses form part of the model village of Barrow Bridge, established in c1831 by Robert Gardner to serve his new Dean Mills complex. Listing NGR: SD6891611690
